Mary Pawley, NP

I had been a patient at Oak Street Health for a few years when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I was not showing any signs of the cancer until the physicians at Oak Street informed me of a high PSA score during a routine blood test exam. They referred me to a First Urology Clinic where I was scheduled for an MRI which unfortunately uncovered the true story. I had cancer. I was in denial for some time until Mary Pawley, an NP at Oak Street, insisted I go in for treatment. That decision and major push to start with my treatments at Urology One possibly saved my life. The cancer has gone to a Gleason 8 and required 42 radiation and hormone treatments over a period of 3-months to put under control. The urologist informed me I was heading to a life or death situation in just a few years if the cancer was not treated. So I have Oak Street Health and NP Mary Pawley to thank for pushing me into safe territory. My PSA is now 0.06 and decreasing. I was informed I will never have to worry about prostate cancer for the rest of my life. Joining Oak Street was the best move I've ever made in my life . They literally saved my life. I still see RN Pawley and she is continuing to help me improve my physical well-being. She is easy for me to relate to and talk with. Something new to me since I usually 'clam-up' around doctors.
