Oak Street Health Presented with Resolution from Chicago City Council

Primary Care Organization Recognized By Alderman Gilbert Villegas for Vaccination Efforts in Belmont Cragin

CHICAGO, IL  April 15, 2021 — Oak Street Health, a network of value-based primary care centers for adults on Medicare, has been honored by the City Council of Chicago with a resolution for its work in vaccinating residents in Belmont Cragin and Montclare. The resolution was presented by 36th Ward Alderman Gilbert Villegas on March 24 to Executive Medical Director, Dr. Ali Khan, on behalf of the Oak Street Health team.

Oak Street Health worked with the City of Chicago on an innovative, targeted program to vaccinate residents 18 and older in Belmont Cragin and Montclare, two of the City’s hardest-hit communities as designated by the Protect Chicago Plus initiative. In the program’s eight-week run at Steinmetz College Prep, Oak Street Health delivered more than 19,100 shots, vaccinating 9,641 residents, and helping to make Belmont Cragin the fastest-vaccinating zip code in Chicago.

The Oak Street Health team mobilized quickly and set up a mass vaccination site at Steinmetz College Prep to address and mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in one of the hardest hit communities,“ said Alderman Gilbert Villegas. They answered our call and without hesitation, along with a number of community partners, volunteered their weekends to administer over 19,000 vaccines for nearly 10,000 residents over eight weeks, showing their compassion and commitment to the communities they serve.”

Oak Street Health’s mission is to rebuild healthcare as it should be, and we are deeply committed to addressing the many health inequities that exist in our country today,” said Dr. Ali Khan, Executive Medical Director. While we knew vaccinating our own patients against COVID-19 would be meaningful work, we were incredibly proud to step up and deliver for the Chicago community at large through the Protect Chicago Plus initiative. We are grateful for all of the community partners we worked with to vaccinate so many Belmont Cragin and Montclare residents, and are humbled by the resolution from Alderman Villegas and the Chicago City Council.”

In addition to this work, Oak Street Health has administered more than 150,000 total COVID-19 vaccine doses at its primary care clinics across 12 states. The organization has focused its efforts on an equitable rollout, proactively targeting members of at-risk communities across the nation.
